THE EVOLUTION OF THE BUILT-INS

Well, we have hit the one-year mark since I started working on our built-ins. My goal this time last year was to have them finished for Christmas 2020. Now my goal today is to have them done by Christmas 2021…!

Our living room has come a long way, though. Check out the before photo from when we moved in!

Before – Our Living Room When We Purchased The House

Holy moly wood, eh! Since then our living room has had a few temporary iterations before today’s look: the built-ins. They were always the final game plan. And they are still one of my favourite additions to our home.

Progress – Our Living Room To Date

Our living room has come a long way, but there is still lots to do. Bricking the fireplace is top of the list! And getting new furniture is a close second. First things first though: brick! Right now. You can follow along in real-time in my IG stories today. I will also save it to a highlight.

In the meantime, let’s take a trip down memory lane. These are just iPhone snaps (and don’t mind the filter on some photos).

First, the paneling came down. The drywall behind (yay!) was repaired and replaced in some places.

Painted the ceiling tongue and groove white. The original had a very orange stain that would have been too hard to sand overhead.

All the drywall was painted and the baseboard was installed.

Then we set up a very humble living room while we unpacked.

Our living room looked like this for the first year.

Onto the good stuff!! Framing the built-ins.

View from the kitchen. So exciting!

Beginning the drywalling stage.

Electrical ran and the lights on!

And more drywalling.

Coming together!! Ready to start the built-in units.

Limestone hearth stone in.

Got the mantle on JUST in time for Christmas in a few days. Garland up!

Happy with all the Christmas vibes!

Painted the shelving section. Door fronts underway.

Holding onto all the Christmas vibes.

The enclosed lower half of the built-in units built and painted.

Ready for doors.

Back to reality post-Christmas. Looking so pretty!

Doors hung and Frame TV mounted. And it has looked like this ever since…brickless!
