LITTLE BUNGALOW BATHROOM REVEAL
The Little Bungalow Bathroom has been sitting complete and pretty for a few months now. It’s always fun to look back at the before photos and compare them to the afters. It’s often hard to remember how far a space has come when you are in the thick of it all. And this space is no exception. The only thing original is the floorplan.
Up first…the beloved vanity moment.
The vanity wall in this space was quite large. There were two options: a double sink or a single sink with flanked storage. We opted for the latter. Since the house’s existing linen cupboard was being converted into a compact laundry space, storage was a priority. This design offered ample storage.
We created some visual contrast with the dark linen paint colour and glass detailing. The large mirror, vertical shiplap, and prominent beam stain help to draw the eye up, making the room feel larger. The ceilings are only 8 feet but feel more like 10 feet in person!
The combination of features in the wet area creates such an impact, with the beam being the highlight. Its purpose is two-fold: to create some symmetry with the vanity beam and to cover the shower curtain rod. The extra-long linen shower curtain also draws the eye up. The warm colour ties in with the stunningly imperfect shower tile. And the cool polished nickel fixtures help to balance everything out.
The built-in linen cupboard is my favourite detail in the space. Previously, there was a stacked washer/dryer blocking this nook from being functional. By moving this into the neighbouring cupboard outside the bathroom, this space became usable.
There were a few challenges here: the dimensions (long and narrow) and the dryer vent accessibility. The dimensions ended up working out just fine, allowing for even more storage. To cover the vent, we opted for an upward-hinging door at the top. This compartment is perfect for storing items that are not used every day.
I am so happy with how this space came together… the balance of cool and warm tones, the tall ceiling illusion, and the cutest little linen cupboard!
